Aston Villa's Nicolas Jackson scored twice to stop Manchester City's perfect league run, and Arsenal's 2-0 win over Everton later on Saturday took them level with City on 21 points. All twenty clubs were in action across ten fixtures, from Friday night at Portman Road to Sunday's 16:30 kick-off at the Stadium of Light.

Nineteen goals went in across the ten games, with three home wins, four away wins and three draws. Two of the goals were own goals, by Chelsea goalkeeper Mike Penders and Brighton & Hove Albion's Pascal Groß. One player was sent off: Chelsea's Cole Palmer, shown a second yellow card in the 80th minute against Tottenham Hotspur.

Manchester City and Arsenal share the lead on 21 points after eight games, City ahead on goal difference, and Sunderland remain bottom on five. Positions before the round are the table dated 20 October, after the previous Premier League round; movements quoted in the match reviews are measured from it.

Aston Villa's Nicolas Jackson scores twice in a 2-1 home win that ends Manchester City's run of seven league wins from seven

Aston Villa beat Manchester City 2-1 at Villa Park on Saturday at 12:30, a first home league win this season, with Aston Villa's Nicolas Jackson scoring both goals. City had won all seven of their previous league games and lost a league game for the first time this season. City had 64 per cent of the ball, 15 shots to eight, seven on target to two and 56 touches in the opposition box to 12, but both of Villa's shots on target went in.

In the 6th minute Villa captain John McGinn seized on a loose touch from City defender Marc Guéhi and played in Villa's Nicolas Jackson, who turned inside City's Elliot Anderson and finished high past City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma. City's Iliman Ndiaye struck the post while the visitors were pressing, and Villa goalkeeper Zion Suzuki made first-half saves from City's Ndiaye and his team-mates Rayan Cherki and Abdukodir Khusanov. City's Guéhi was booked for pulling Villa's Jackson down on the edge of the box.

City's Erling Haaland climbed highest to head in a cross from the right by his team-mate Iliman Ndiaye in the 52nd minute, and City's Haaland has now scored in seven Premier League games in a row. Villa goalkeeper Suzuki then made a stop from City's Josko Gvardiol, and parity lasted eight minutes: Villa's Jackson met a low cross from Villa substitute Ibrahim Mbaye in the 60th with a first-time shot that passed under City goalkeeper Donnarumma's left hand. Villa's Ian Maatsen cleared a late header from City's Haaland. Each side collected four yellow cards.

It was Villa's fifth win in their past seven meetings with City and their fourth in a row against City at Villa Park, and it fell on the fourth anniversary of Villa manager Unai Emery taking charge. Enzo Maresca's City stay first on 21 points but are now level with Arsenal, who beat Everton later that day. Villa rise from 12th to ninth on 11 points.

Tottenham Hotspur win two goals to nil at Chelsea, who lose Cole Palmer to a second yellow card in the 80th minute

Tottenham Hotspur won two goals to nil at Chelsea on Saturday evening, in torrential rain, with Chelsea's Cole Palmer sent off in the 80th minute for a second booking. Tottenham Hotspur had 69 per cent of the ball and 15 shots to seven, with four shots on target each, and it was Chelsea's first home league defeat of the season.

The game was goalless until the 77th minute, and while it was goalless Chelsea made the better chances: Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Antonín Kinský saved from Chelsea's Cole Palmer, Chelsea's Jordan Henderson and Chelsea's Pedro Neto. Chelsea goalkeeper Mike Penders, making his first league start for the club after Chelsea's Emi Martínez suffered a fractured jaw against Everton, kept out Tottenham Hotspur's Omar Marmoush and denied Tottenham Hotspur's Mathys Tel. Tottenham Hotspur's James Maddison, who impressed in the first half, left the pitch with another problem five minutes into the second.

Chelsea's Palmer was booked in the 71st minute for barging into Tottenham Hotspur's Mateus Fernandes. At a corner in the 77th minute Chelsea goalkeeper Penders jumped with Tottenham Hotspur's Jan Paul van Hecke and punched the ball into his own net. A second yellow card for Chelsea's Palmer followed in the 80th, for a late challenge on Tottenham Hotspur's Conor Gallagher, and Tottenham Hotspur's Mathys Tel scored the second in the 87th, running from the halfway line and shooting low from 25 yards.

Tottenham Hotspur's record from their previous 36 league visits to Stamford Bridge was one win, 11 draws and 24 defeats, the win coming on 1 April 2018. Roberto De Zerbi's side followed their first league victory of the season, against Coventry City on Monday, with this one and rise from 16th to 14th on nine points. Chelsea, coached by Xabi Alonso, drop from fourth to fifth on 13, and Chelsea's Palmer will miss Wednesday's Carabao Cup last-16 tie against Liverpool.

The own goal, by Chelsea goalkeeper Mike Penders (77th minute), is listed under Tottenham Hotspur, the side it counted for.

Bournemouth win three goals to nil at Old Trafford, leaving Manchester United with one league win from eight games

Bournemouth won three goals to nil at Old Trafford on Sunday, leaving Manchester United with one league win from eight games. Manchester United had 63 per cent of the ball and 17 shots to 10, but they needed 40 minutes for a first shot on target, and Bournemouth led by two goals to nil at half-time.

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes started on the bench after blaming the tactics of manager Michael Carrick for the 4-1 defeat by Como on Wednesday; Manchester United manager Michael Carrick called leaving him out a "football decision", and the captain did not come on. Bournemouth's Rayan volleyed in the opener at the back post in the 38th minute from a free-kick by Bournemouth's Justin Kluivert. In the 43rd minute Manchester United's Leny Yoro slipped, Bournemouth's Adrien Truffert squared and Bournemouth's Marcus Tavernier scored into an empty net. Boos greeted the half-time whistle.

An offside flag denied Bournemouth's Evanilson a third early in the second half, and Bournemouth's Rayan shot straight at Manchester United goalkeeper Senne Lammens when another chance opened up. Bournemouth's Evanilson scored the third in the 71st minute: he raced onto a long clearance, nipped the ball past Manchester United goalkeeper Lammens as the goalkeeper came out of his area and curled it into the empty net from 20 yards, the fourth goal in five games across all competitions for Bournemouth's Evanilson. Manchester United collected four yellow cards, Bournemouth one.

Marco Rose's Bournemouth have now won four games in a row in all competitions and rise from 15th to 13th on nine points. Manchester United fall from 13th to 16th on seven, and the home supporters sang the name of Manchester United manager Michael Carrick at the final whistle before their applause turned to jeers for the players behind him.

Arsenal2-0Everton

Arsenal's defenders Ezri Konsa and Gabriel Magalhães score in a 2-0 home win over Everton that lifts Arsenal level with Manchester City

Arsenal beat Everton 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday afternoon, with Arsenal's defenders Ezri Konsa and Gabriel Magalhães scoring. Arsenal had 20 shots to eight, with four on target to three, 12 corners to three and 47 touches in the opposition box to 17, and 10 of those 20 shots were blocked.

Arsenal's Konsa scored in the 7th minute, bundling the ball in at the back post after Arsenal won three successive corners; it was his first goal for the club and Arsenal's first from a set-piece this season. Arsenal had 13 shots and 10 corners in the first half. Everton's James Garner and Tyrique George both had efforts, and the best Everton chance fell to Thierno Barry, who could only poke the ball close to Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya, who saved well. Arsenal's Noni Madueke should have scored after being played through by his team-mate Declan Rice.

Arsenal's Gabriel Magalhães headed in a cross from his team-mate Ben White in the 68th minute to join his fellow defender Ezri Konsa on the scoresheet, and Everton's Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall flicked a header just wide late on. Everton collected three yellow cards, Arsenal one. It was Arsenal's first match since Bukayo Saka's quadriceps injury, which is expected to keep him out for at least six weeks, and Everton were without Jack Grealish through illness.

Everton had lost 10 and drawn three of their 13 previous league visits to Arsenal under David Moyes. Mikel Arteta's side rise to 21 points to join Manchester City, who had earlier lost at Aston Villa; City stay first on goal difference. Everton fall from eighth to 11th on 10 points.

Fulham win by a single goal at Coventry City, Fulham's Oscar Bobb scoring in the 80th minute

Fulham won by a single goal at Coventry City on Saturday, Fulham's Oscar Bobb scoring in the 80th minute for their second league win in a row. Fulham had 64 per cent of the ball and 12 shots to 13, three on target to two, with expected goals of 0.55 for Fulham and 0.50 for Coventry City.

Fulham's Josh King hit the crossbar in the first half and the rebound fell to his team-mate Alex Iwobi, who could not convert from close range. A Fulham penalty appeal shortly before the break was turned down, with Fulham's Calvin Bassey judged to have pulled at an opponent's shirt before Coventry City's Brandon Thomas-Asante dragged him down in the box. Coventry City's best moments came on counter-attacks led by Coventry City's Thomas-Asante, and Coventry City defender Bobby Thomas went off injured in the 60th minute.

Fulham's Bobb beat a defender in a packed penalty area and whipped a strike into the bottom corner in the 80th minute, set up by his team-mate Josh King. Fulham's Charles was booked in the 36th minute and Fulham's Robinson in the 82nd, and Coventry City were not booked.

It was Fulham's first away league win in nine matches. Fulham, managed by Álvaro Arbeloa, rise from 18th to 15th on eight points; Coventry City, managed by Frank Lampard, fall from 17th to 19th on six and failed to score in the first half for the seventh time in eight league games.

Newcastle United win two goals to nil at Crystal Palace, through Newcastle's William Osula in the 47th minute and his team-mate Harvey Barnes in the 58th

Newcastle United won two goals to nil at Selhurst Park on Sunday, scoring twice, in the 47th and 58th minutes, after a goalless first half. Crystal Palace had 17 shots to 10 and 30 touches in the opposition box to 18, with four shots on target to two, and 53 per cent of possession.

Crystal Palace made a lively start, with Palace's Jean-Philippe Mateta and his team-mate Daichi Kamada both having attempts, but the first half was goalless. Newcastle United's Nico González and Schär were both booked, the first in the 36th minute and the second in added time.

Newcastle United's William Osula scored in the 47th minute with a first-time finish from a cross by his team-mate Jacob Murphy; it was Osula's first goal since May, in his first start since the first weekend of the season. Newcastle United's Harvey Barnes doubled the lead in the 58th, which brought boos from the home supporters. Newcastle goalkeeper Lukas Horníček saved from Palace's Adam Wharton and Palace substitute Dario Osorio. Crystal Palace and Newcastle United each collected three yellow cards.

Newcastle United had not won at Selhurst Park for six years, and Matthias Jaissle now has three top-flight wins as Newcastle United's manager. Pierre Sage, who took over Crystal Palace four months ago on a three-year contract, has lost five of his eight Premier League games. Newcastle United rise from 11th to eighth on 11 points; Palace fall from 14th to 17th on seven.

Hull City and Brentford draw 1-1, Hull City's Oli McBurnie scoring a first-half penalty and Brentford's Dango Ouattara equalising in the 63rd minute

Hull City drew 1-1 with Brentford at the MKM Stadium on Sunday, their third successive home draw in the Premier League. Brentford had 58 per cent of the ball, 14 shots to 12 and six on target to two, and 33 touches in the opposition box to 32.

Brentford's Aaron Hickey fouled Hull City's Tim Iroegbunam as Brentford made a mess of playing out from the back, and Brentford's Hickey was booked in the 23rd minute. Hull City's Oli McBurnie scored the penalty in the 24th minute to put the home side ahead at half-time.

Brentford's Dango Ouattara equalised in the 63rd minute with a close-range strike, taking advantage of poor defending, set up by his team-mate Igor Thiago. Hull City then had the better chances: Hull City's Mohamed Belloumi sent a shot into the side-netting, Hull City's Mohamed-Ali Cho had a low strike kept out by the foot of Brentford goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher, and Hull City's Joe Gelhardt fired wide late on.

Hull City won their first two matches back in the Premier League and are winless in six since, but they remain unbeaten at home in the league, and fall from ninth to 10th on 10 points. Brentford have drawn all four of their away league games, and this was the first match this season in which they did not take the lead; they stay sixth on 11.

Nottingham Forest's Neco Williams and Ipswich Town's Julio Enciso score in a 1-1 draw at Portman Road, with Forest taking 17 shots to seven

Ipswich Town drew 1-1 with Nottingham Forest at Portman Road on Friday night. Nottingham Forest had 17 shots to seven and five on target to three, five corners to none and 25 touches in the opposition box to 12, with expected goals of 2.31 to 0.46.

Nottingham Forest's Neco Williams scored his first goal for Forest since April in the 13th minute, cushioning home a right-wing cross from his team-mate Daniel Muñoz at the back post. Nottingham Forest's Morgan Gibbs-White had an effort saved by Ipswich Town goalkeeper Christian Walton before Ipswich Town's Leif Davis cleared off the line. Ipswich Town levelled in the 41st minute: Nottingham Forest defender Nikola Milenković took too long over the ball, his backpass fell short, and Ipswich Town's Julio Enciso collected it and slotted past Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Matz Sels, scoring for Ipswich Town for the first time since joining the club in the summer.

Early in the second half Ipswich Town defender Issa Diop brought down Nottingham Forest's James McAtee as McAtee tried to get through on goal. Referee Thomas Bramall waved play on, the video assistant referee recommended an on-field review of the challenge as a possible red card for denying a goalscoring opportunity, and Bramall gave Ipswich Town's Diop a yellow card and a free-kick, saying Nottingham Forest's McAtee "had knocked the ball to the right side of the goal". Nottingham Forest manager Oliver Glasner told Sky Sports that the challenge was a "clear red card". Nottingham Forest then missed several chances: Nottingham Forest's Murillo headed a corner wide, and Nottingham Forest's Liam Delap headed over from six yards and put a low effort just wide.

Ipswich Town's manager, Gary O'Neil, told Sky Sports: "Newly promoted sides can find it difficult but we have bridged that gap well." Nottingham Forest rise from 19th to 18th on six points, and Ipswich Town fall from 10th to 12th on 10.

Liverpool win 2-0 at Anfield through an own goal by Brighton's Pascal Groß and a goal from Liverpool's Alexander Isak, Liverpool's first home league win of the season

Liverpool beat Brighton & Hove Albion 2-0 at Anfield on Sunday, their first home league win of the season. Brighton & Hove Albion had 64 per cent of the ball and 17 shots to 13, but only one of them was on target, to Liverpool's four, and it was the first Premier League match this season in which Brighton & Hove Albion did not score.

Brighton & Hove Albion's Yasin Ayari fired over from a fine move before Liverpool took a 17th-minute lead: a Liverpool shot from Florian Wirtz was heading wide when Brighton & Hove Albion's Pascal Groß turned it into his own net. Liverpool's Wirtz was first credited with the goal, which was later judged an own goal. Liverpool's Bradley Barcola did well down the right and his team-mate Alexander Isak cushioned the cross in with a volley in the 21st minute, his sixth league goal of the season.

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson lost possession playing out from the back and Brighton & Hove Albion's Ayari hit the foot of the right-hand post with a shot that bounced back out. Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen made two saves from Liverpool's Cody Gakpo and another from Liverpool's Ronald Araujo, Liverpool's Alexis Mac Allister headed wide against his former club, and Liverpool's Isak fired another attempt over. Brighton & Hove Albion's Boscagli and Costinha were booked, and Liverpool collected no yellow cards.

It was Andoni Iraola's first league win at Anfield as Liverpool manager, and Liverpool's fourth win in a row in all competitions since a home defeat by three goals to nil against Manchester City. Brighton & Hove Albion, coached by Fabian Hürzeler, stay third on 16 points; Liverpool move up from fifth to fourth on 15, one point behind them.

The own goal, by Brighton & Hove Albion's Pascal Groß (17th minute), is listed under Liverpool, the side it counted for. Liverpool's Florian Wirtz was first credited with it.

Sunderland and Leeds United draw 0-0 at the Stadium of Light, the only goalless game of the round

Sunderland drew 0-0 with Leeds United at the Stadium of Light on Sunday, the only goalless game of the round and an end to a run of four successive league defeats for Sunderland. Sunderland had 15 shots to 11, four on target each, and 50 per cent of the ball, and Leeds United made 23 touches in the opposition box to 18.

Sunderland had the only two shots on target of a goalless first half, both by returning striker Brian Brobbey, and Leeds United goalkeeper James Trafford denied him twice, once diving low to his right to keep out a deflected shot. Sunderland's Brobbey touched the ball only 16 times before Sunderland replaced him in the 65th minute with substitute Timur Tutierov. Leeds United's Ampadu was booked in the 29th minute and Sunderland's Reinildo Mandava in the 39th.

After the break Leeds United's Trafford stopped two shots from the edge of the area by Sunderland's Nilson Angulo. Leeds United's best moments came after the break, when Sunderland goalkeeper Robin Roefs stopped a header from Leeds United's Tarik Muharemović and a low drive from Leeds United's Ao Tanaka, then denied Leeds United substitute Sean Longstaff in the 90th minute. Leeds United's Bogle was booked in the 67th.

It was Leeds United's fifth draw in eight league matches, and they stay seventh on 11 points. Only Arsenal, with five, have conceded fewer goals than Leeds United's six, and Leeds United goalkeeper Trafford kept his third league clean sheet of the season.
