Premier League match reviews: 10 October 2026 to 12 October 2026

Manchester City won 3-0 at Anfield, their first match since being found guilty of breaching Premier League financial regulations.

The sixth round of the season produced 36 goals across ten fixtures, five home wins, two away wins, three draws and three dismissals: a straight red for Pascal Struijk, another for Rodrigo Bentancur and a second yellow for Ryan Gravenberch. Coventry City won at home in the top flight for the first time in 25 years. Chelsea scored five against Bournemouth from ten shots. Arsenal, beaten 3-0 by Brighton in their previous league match, came from behind to beat Leeds United.

Manchester City have eighteen points from six wins, Arsenal fifteen and Brighton & Hove Albion thirteen. Three clubs are unbeaten and three have not won, and Fulham are bottom on two points. The Premier League is back on Saturday 17 October.

Arsenal2-1Leeds United

Arsenal score twice in eight minutes to beat Leeds, who lose for the first time this season

Arsenal's previous league match was a 3-0 defeat at Brighton, and James Justin had Leeds United ahead at the Emirates on 55 minutes.

Justin slammed in Gabriel Gudmundsson's pull-back, and Leeds had not won a league game there since May 2003. Riccardo Calafiori answered on 62, converting at close range from Ben White's pass, and a triple change from Mikel Arteta followed straight away. Bruno Guimarães, a £75m summer signing, was one of the three introduced. On 70 minutes he finished with assurance from the edge of the area after a flowing move that ended with a pass from Declan Rice.

Leeds had earned the lead. Daniel Farke's side began the season with five league games unbeaten, their first such start in the top flight since 2001, and for the first hour they were the better team. David Raya made saves from Jayden Bogle and Gudmundsson, and Ethan Ampadu's looping header had him racing back to keep it out. Arsenal managed one effort on target before the break, a tame Kai Havertz header, and were flagged offside four times inside the opening sixteen minutes.

Arsenal finished with 58% of the ball, thirteen shots to eleven and six on target to five. Martin Ødegaard missed a clear chance to make it comfortable late on, set up by Rice inside the six-yard area. Leeds lost for the first time this season and are seventh on nine points, after finishing 14th last season. Arsenal are second on fifteen, three behind Manchester City, and Arteta signed a new contract in the week of the game.

Aston Villa2-2Brentford

Ajer equalises two minutes after a deflection off him puts Villa ahead, and Villa Park waits on

Aston Villa went ahead on 77 minutes and Brentford were level on 79, and Villa Park is still waiting for a home league win this season.

Yehor Yarmoliuk put Brentford in front on ten minutes, and Nicolas Jackson equalised 88 seconds later, his second goal in successive league games. Both sides then seemed happy enough with a draw until the match came alive in the closing stages. John McGinn, the Villa captain, struck on 77 after Manzambi set him up, and his shot took a heavy deflection off Kristoffer Ajer on its way past Caoimhin Kelleher. Jaidon Anthony then set up Ajer, who made amends two minutes later by slotting in the equaliser.

Unai Emery had called for better home form before kick-off and would not blame work on the North Stand for the lack of it. Villa had twenty shots to fourteen, seven on target to four, and 51.6% of the ball, with two corners each. They had lost both of their previous matches at home, so this was their first home point of the season, taken from a game they had led.

Brentford have lost none of their last eight league matches, a run that stretches back to last season and is the longest in the division, though four of their six games this season have been draws. They are fourth on ten points. Villa are 16th on five, Manchester City visit on 24 October, and Brentford are at home to Liverpool on Saturday.

Chelsea5-1Bournemouth

Jordan Henderson scores his first Chelsea goals in a 5-1 win, and Bournemouth are still without a win under Marco Rose

Chelsea were two goals up inside three minutes, and went on to score five.

Jordan Henderson, 36 and playing his first home game for the club, curled the opener in off the upright after 68 seconds. It was Chelsea's first shot, and he had been played through by Cole Palmer, who had put his name to a contract running to 2034 earlier that day. Henderson then released Morgan Rogers, whose cross-shot was diverted over the Bournemouth goalkeeper by a touch from António Silva. The video assistant referee looked at it before it was given to Rogers, his fourth this season.

Bournemouth brought Ben Gannon-Doak on at the break and were 3-0 down within 30 seconds, João Pedro finding the top corner after Silva made another mistake in the box and Pedro Neto reacted first. Evanilson pulled one back on 51 when a clearance by Moises Caicedo ricocheted off him in the six-yard box. João Pedro tapped in Pep Chavarría's cross on 67, and Henderson curled in a free-kick from 25 yards on 70, completing the scoring and a first pair of Chelsea goals.

Chelsea scored five from ten shots, six of them on target, and conceded seven corners to their one. They had let in a league-high twelve goals in the first five games and allowed one here, with Caicedo and Henderson paired in midfield for the first time. Caicedo had managed just 14 minutes of football all season before this match. Marco Rose's Bournemouth are still winless on three points. "We played not good so it was a deserved loss," Rose said, adding that it was his fault they had not reacted well to Chelsea's fast starts. Chelsea are sixth on ten points, up from tenth.

Ipswich Town2-1Fulham

Abdoul Ouattara and Dara O'Shea score late to give Ipswich a third win and leave Fulham bottom

Fulham were a goal up in the closing minutes for the second league game running, and this time they lost it.

Ryan Sessegnon drove a low shot in from outside the area on 55 minutes, and Fulham had made the better chances before that. Ipswich Town pushed back. Emersonn, unmarked, headed against the post, and Daizen Maeda fell in the box and was refused a penalty. Abdoul Ouattara equalised with a shot from 25 yards with two minutes to go, and Dara O'Shea met a set-piece with a header in stoppage time, with Clarke credited with the assist.

Fulham had 52.4% of the ball and thirteen shots to eleven, with five on target each and five corners to two. It is Ipswich's third victory, after Sunderland and Crystal Palace, so they have won three of their six on their return to the top flight. Gary O'Neil's side are tenth on nine points and go to Manchester City on Saturday.

Álvaro Arbeloa is still looking for his first league win as Fulham manager. Fulham led against Manchester United before the international break as well, and they have just two points after six matches and finish the round bottom of the table, 20th.

The key events on the match page place Dara O'Shea's goal at 90+1, while the written report puts it in the 92nd minute; the timeline follows the key events and the prose says only stoppage time.

Brighton win with ten men after Pascal Struijk's red card and make it three league wins in a row

Brighton played more than half an hour with ten men at the Stadium of Light and scored the second goal in stoppage time.

Maxim de Cuyper put them ahead on 53 minutes, sliding a low finish past Robin Roefs from Pascal Groß's pass to the left flank. Four minutes later Wilson Isidor fell under a challenge from Pascal Struijk, the last man, as he chased a through-ball. Referee Thomas Bramall and his assistant gave nothing at first, then the VAR, Neil Davies, called Bramall to the screen, and after several replays he showed a straight red card to Struijk. The visitors received the decision with disbelief.

Struijk had nearly scored himself at the end of the first half, left alone to head a free-kick against the far post. Brighton held their lead after the dismissal and doubled it in stoppage time, when Jaouen Hadjam broke away and drilled a low finish across Roefs, his first for the club, with an assist from Rutter. Hadjam and Rutter had both come on at 88 minutes.

Groß, 35, has had a hand in seven goals in six league games, and he is the oldest player to lay on a goal in three successive Premier League matches since Ryan Giggs, then 38, in February 2012. Brighton have won three league games in a row for the first time in eight years, scoring ten without reply, and this was the opening game of a run of seven in 21 days. Sunderland were without Brian Brobbey, whose hat-trick against Manchester City came in the last game before the break and who then picked up a minor hamstring problem on Netherlands duty, and without Dan Ballard and Habib Diarra. Thomas Meunier was substituted before the break after a knock. Sunderland have lost four of their six and three in a row, and are 17th on four points. Brighton are third on thirteen.

Dominic Solanke's stoppage-time header rescues a point for ten-man Tottenham after Rodrigo Bentancur's red card

Tottenham Hotspur went a goal and a man down at Old Trafford and equalised in the second minute of stoppage time.

Bryan Mbeumo opened the scoring on 73 minutes, striding beyond van Hecke and tucking a shot inside the bottom-right corner from Matheus Cunha's pass. Five minutes later Rodrigo Bentancur, who had come on as a substitute, went in on Luke Shaw with two feet straight after a wild slide from van Hecke, and Shaw shoved him over. Bentancur then planted his head towards the face of the England left-back. Referee Stuart Atwell sent him off for the headbutt, though the earlier two-footed challenge might have earned a red card by itself.

Dominic Solanke, wearing the armband for Tottenham for the first time, got in front of Lisandro Martínez and glanced in Sandro Tonali's cross two minutes into added time, with Senne Lammens rooted to the spot. Tottenham had pressed high and controlled the first half without scoring. Mohammed Kudus swept a shot just wide, Lammens smothered a close-range effort from Conor Gallagher, and Solanke missed as well. Spurs have now failed to score before half-time in 18 Premier League games this calendar year. After the restart Lammens denied Sávio and pawed at a sliding Solanke effort. Each side had twelve shots, United four on target and Tottenham three.

The home supporters were consistent: they booed at half-time and again at full time. "It's not nice, it hurts a lot because I care about this club," Michael Carrick said. Manchester United have six points from six games, their poorest return after that many since 1986-87, when they had four. In the last three Premier League games where the other side had a man sent off, they have drawn one and lost two. Tottenham have gone six games without a win at the start of a league season only three times before, in 2008-09, 1955-56 and 1912-13, and Roberto De Zerbi has won four of his 15 games in charge. "I believe in football if we work well and if we are serious people and have qualities, you will make results," he said. Tottenham are 19th on three points, one place above Fulham, and United are 13th on six.

Crystal Palace3-1Nottingham Forest

Palace score twice before half-time, the second a header that may have grazed a teammate's elbow, and beat Glasner's Forest

Oliver Glasner went back to Selhurst Park with Nottingham Forest ahead after three minutes, and left it beaten 3-1.

Glasner won trophies with Crystal Palace, left when last season ended and took the Forest job in the summer. Dan Ndoye's neat low finish put Forest in front, and for about 40 minutes they were in control. Morgan Gibbs-White hit the crossbar, and Liam Delap's follow-up shot, from very close, was kept out by Walter Benítez. Pierre Sage called that save the most important moment of the game.

Daichi Kamada scored his first Premier League goal on 41 minutes, finishing off a neat team move, and in the fourth minute of stoppage time Jefferson Lerma headed in a second, through the legs of Matz Sels. Replays suggested the header may have grazed the elbow of Anan Khalaili, a Palace teammate, and the VAR found no conclusive evidence to intervene. Darren Cann, who used to run the line in the Premier League, said it did look as if the ball came off Khalaili's arm, but that a VAR cannot take that long and must keep the on-field decision without clear and indisputable evidence. Yéremy Pino found the bottom corner on 59, and the Palace supporters sang at their former manager.

Benítez saved late from Chris Wood, a substitute, to keep Forest from a way back. Forest had 24 shots to Palace's 13, six on target to seven, and 56.8% of the ball. "It was like I didn't deserve to win at Selhurst Park because the players did everything," Glasner said. It is Palace's first win at Selhurst Park this season and their second overall, and no side has recovered more points from losing positions than the six they have won. Palace are 12th on seven points and Forest 15th on five.

Hull City2-2Everton

Mohamed Belloumi's late equaliser keeps Hull unbeaten at home and Everton unbeaten in the league

Hull City and Everton each led once, and two of the four goals began with a giveaway.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles passed poorly, Sorba Thomas intercepted, and Joe Gelhardt put the ball past the onrushing Jordan Pickford to give Hull the lead. Maitland-Niles made amends with the cross that Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall headed in at the far side of the goal. Then it was Thomas who gave the ball away, Dewsbury-Hall played in Thierno Barry, and Everton led on 68 minutes. Mohamed Belloumi, who had scored for Algeria on Tuesday and was fit only for the bench, drove a shot past Pickford on 74 after Elliot Stroud's low ball across.

Everton edged the play. Brennan Johnson had a first-half effort ruled out for offside after Harrison Armstrong's effort was cleared from the goal-line, and Barry saw a header from close in saved and failed to connect with a pass across goal from three yards. Hull had 34.8% of the ball and nine shots to fifteen, five on target to seven. "Our level was way below where we've been recently," David Moyes said, and of the disallowed goal, "I accept that well enough."

A win would have taken Hull into the top four, and Everton's two goals were the first Hull have conceded at home this season. Hull are eighth on nine points from two wins, three draws and a defeat. Everton are unbeaten after six league games, the first such start since 2013-14, when they finished fifth under Roberto Martinez, and they are fifth on ten points, outside a Champions League place only on goal difference. They played this one after it emerged that their owners, the Friedkin Group, are exploring a sale of the club.

The written report puts Joe Gelhardt's goal in the 43rd minute and Everton's equaliser less than five minutes later, while the key events on the match page give 48 and 55 minutes and the half-time score is 0-0, so the timeline is omitted and the prose gives no minute for either goal.

    Liverpool0-3Manchester City

Manchester City score three between the 65th and 78th minutes after Ryan Gravenberch's second yellow card

Manchester City won 3-0 at Anfield in their first game since a verdict that they breached the league's financial regulations, which they have appealed.

Liverpool supporters made their view known before the game and during it, with constant chants of "cheat" and banners that included "A Generation Of Supporters Cheated". City's fans replied with a flag reading "In Khaldoon We Trust". The first half was an anti-climax. City slowed the game against the atmosphere, and Liverpool, without Isak, Szoboszlai and Gakpo through injury, could not make a breakthrough.

The game turned on 62 minutes, when Ryan Gravenberch was booked a second time, for fouling Jeremy Doku. Andoni Iraola said the first yellow was "not a yellow" and that he had "no idea" why it was given, and Micah Richards, a former City defender, called both bookings soft. City scored all three between the 65th and 78th minutes. Erling Haaland hit a thunderous finish past Alisson on 65, Doku, a substitute, struck into the top corner on 68 after Elliot Anderson set him up, and Rayan Cherki's third on 78 came after a 41-pass move, the longest build-up to a Premier League goal since Phil Foden's against Nottingham Forest in September 2023, which needed 46.

Gianluigi Donnarumma saved from Víctor Muñoz and Gravenberch in quick succession, and Haaland put a clear chance wide when clean through, but City had four shots on target and scored with three of them while Liverpool had six and none. Liverpool had 35.4% of the ball, and Florian Wirtz, who cost £116m, was taken off with 66 minutes played. Asked about the verdict, Virgil van Dijk said it would not be a good idea to comment while it is ongoing and that he would share his thoughts when it is "properly settled". City, who maintain their innocence, have appealed, and what happens to the club in the longer run is unknown. For now they have six wins from six and a three-point lead on eighteen points. Liverpool are ninth on nine.

    Coventry City4-1Newcastle United

Coventry win a home league game in the top flight for the first time in 25 years, and score four

Coventry City won at home in the Premier League for the first time in a quarter of a century, and they scored four to do it.

Lukas Horníček, pressed by Ephron Mason-Clark, parried the ball away and then brought down Sidiki Cherif, and Jack Rudoni took the penalty on six minutes. Rudoni had never taken one in a game before, in his 280th senior appearance. It was Coventry's first home goal of the campaign, and the first time since John Hartson's goal against Sunderland in April 2001 that they had scored at home in the Premier League. Cherif, 19, doubled the lead on 48 minutes with a clean finish.

Sven Botman pulled one back on 70 minutes with a long-range drive into the top corner, after Nico González set him up, and Newcastle United had a lifeline. Ellis Simms ended it. He scored with his first touch, just over three minutes after coming on as a substitute, in his 150th game for the club, when a shot deflected in on 81. Referee John Brooks had played advantage after Joelinton crashed into Brandon Thomas-Asante at the edge of the area. Stephen Mfuni, 18, bent a finish into the top corner on 86, with Dasilva the provider, which made him the club's youngest scorer in a competition.

Newcastle had 19 shots to Coventry's nine, six on target each, and 67.3% of the ball. Matias Fernandez-Pardo dummied Jacob Murphy's pass from close range in the first half with nobody arriving behind it, and Bobby Thomas made two blocks to deny him. "In the boxes the games are decided," Matthias Jaissle said. "In both boxes we were not clean." Newcastle have now conceded four goals in each of their last two away league games, which has not happened to them since December 2012. Coventry, with two wins in six, climb from 18th to 14th and are level on six points with Manchester United; Newcastle are 11th on eight. "We played like the team that we want to be here," Frank Lampard said.
